At the end of the 19th century, Fretheim Hotel was a large farm which accommodated rich English lords who came here to fish for salmon in the Flåm river and to enjoy the scenic landscapes.

The original timber hotel was built in the Swiss style, but has evolved throughout the years in line with the increase in tourists and travellers on the Bergensbana railway and more recently the Flåmsbana railway.
Today, the hotel is an exciting building both architecturally and historically, with the distinctive, stately old part of the hotel harmonising perfectly with the more recent developments built in the year 2000.

The history of Fretheim Hotel is carefully preserved and you can still see signs of how the hotel used to be.

The older part of the hotel has been beautifully restored, with open fireplaces and antique furniture in the lounges, library, conference rooms and, not least, all the historical guest rooms. You can wander around the corridors, discovering new treasures at every corner and enjoy the atmosphere of a glorious past.

At Fretheim Hotel, we enjoy a close cooperation with local producers and welcome their high quality, specialised produce. We are well known for our excellent cuisine and use of local ingredients. The area surrounding Flåm is rich in local producers of unique foods, such as the Undredal cheese, small-scale producers of top quality lamb, venison and reindeer and, not least, the organic vegetables from Sogn Jord og Hagebruksskule, the local agricultural college.

Fretheim Hotel is located in Flåm, which is the perfect base for excursions in the unspoilt, beautiful and wild scenery ofWest Norway.

While enjoying views of the mountains and fjord, you can see, taste, listen, hear and indulge in a number of new experiences for the senses. We truly care about the environment, our history and traditions. Every room has views of the fjord and mountains, guaranteeing a unique stay.

Rooms/capacity:
Fretheim Hotel has 121 rooms in the hotel building, and a charming, traditional storehouse on pillars which can sleep 6 persons. The historical part of the hotel has 31 rooms, with the remaining 90 rooms in the modern wing. All the rooms have en suite bathrooms with bath tub and WC.

3. Room with fjord view in the new wing
4. Room in the historical wing
5. Junior suites in the new wing
6. Tower suite in the historical wing
